I got quite a lot of traffic to my original post for my plan to test out the side hustle that everyone continues to post about on social media How to Make Money on YouTube with Little Effort (Nature Sounds Method)
In this post I talked about making money on YouTube with little to no effort and how I was going to approach the scenario.
Below you will find the results of my effort for March. I will post monthly results as we work to build a low effort passive income stream.
Are you ready to see my YouTube results?
1. Effort and Time in March 2022: 0.0 Hours
The funny thing about March is that I spent absolutely no time during the month on the channel. The chart below shows the time I spent in February preparing for March and it worked out.
Total Produced: 18 videos
Unique content: 6 videos
Each of the six videos has a 1 minute, a 1 hour, and a 10 hour version so once the first is made it is just a quick duplication of the video to meet the desired duration.
Below are the analytics for the month…..
2. Channel Analytics in March 2022:
Reflection
My first reflection of the Month is holy hell did my impressions skyrocket for March. Since I saw an almost 200% increase in my impressions, I need to do some digging to understand why. My guess is that uploading videos at a more consistent pace triggered the YouTube algorithm. I will follow up in a later blog about my findings.
Having a 13% click through rate feels good. Doing a quick google search, I found the average click through rate is around 6%. I plan to do more research because this data is not passing the smell test off the bat. I would be ecstatic if my clickthrough rate is high and it would me I am doing something right with my thumbnails.
The last part is to go off and try to understand what I need to do to increase my watch time. Mostly the short videos are getting the views but I think getting more traffic and longer watch time can help me get my first subscriber.
Don’t forget to follow the blog or join my mailing list for updates on the progress!

The trend I’m observing in anecdotal evidence from creators across all social platforms currently seems to be what you already know: a leaning toward videos, and especially the short, click baity, lock-you-in-and-keep-you-scrolling-forever short clips that trigger both the algorithm and our cute little primate brains. It’s almost like harnessing the marketing power of ADHD…similar to Saturday morning cartoon ad placement back in the day. ???
Good post. Thanks for the succinct analysis and labor breakdown!
